ABOUT JOHN Henry
John Henry Johnson is a virtuoso guitar player who performs and teaches all over the United States.
As a teenager fascinated with Eddie Van Halen he dove into learning to play electric guitar, spending countless hours studying on the internet. Soon he was playing with cover bands and collaborating far and wide with his highly technical guitar playing. Inspired by fingerstyle guitar players such as Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel, he picked up a steel string guitar as well and began a slightly different journey.
In 2013 John Henry studied classical guitar under Dr Joseph Williams III until 2016, collaborating with many classical guitar players in the meantime at events such as the Texas Guitar Conference and as part of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor’s Guitar Quartet and Duo.
In 2020 after spending several years developing his steel string fingerstyle technique with his classical and rock roots combined with influence from artists such as Michael Hedges, Mike Chapdelaine, and Alexandr Misko, he began his carreer as a full time musician based in Austin, Texas and has since been performing far and wide at concerts, festivals, benefits, and many more. He released his debut EP Quest for Creation in 2021 and subsequent album Quarks and Quarter Notes in 2024.
In 2023 John Henry joined Austin Classical Guitar as Artistic Coordinator and is an ambassador to international musicians who make their visit to Austin.
